This is the second edition of the book that sparked the current
wave of interest in schema therapy. Although schema therapy was
originally developed by Jeff Young in the USA, it was not until
unprecedented outcome data was published from pioneering Dutch
clinical trials with BPD patients that the clinical CBT community
took serious notice. Schema therapy has now become one of the most
popular forms of contemporary CBT. It has parallels to the 'third
wave' of contextual behavioural science in that it develops
traditional CBT in new directions, but while contextual behavioural
science priorities behavioural techniques based on acceptance and
mindfulness, schema therapy is more cognitive and draws on elements
of experiential learning, object relations and psychodynamic
therapy in addition to traditional CBT. The first edition of this
book has sold more than 3,000 copies at a steady rate of around 500
units per year since 2009.
The Routledge Handbook of Translation and Cognition provides a
comprehensive, state-of-the-art overview of how translation and
cognition relate to each other, discussing the most important
issues in the fledgling sub-discipline of Cognitive Translation
Studies (CTS), from foundational to applied aspects. With a strong
focus on interdisciplinarity, the handbook surveys concepts and
methods in neighbouring disciplines that are concerned with
cognition and how they relate to translational activity from a
cognitive perspective. Looking at different types of cognitive
processes, this volume also ventures into emergent areas such as
neuroscience, artificial intelligence, cognitive ergonomics and
human–computer interaction. With an editors’ introduction and
30 chapters authored by leading scholars in the field of Cognitive
Translation Studies, this handbook is the essential reference and
resource for students and researchers of translation and cognition
and will also be of interest to those working in bilingualism,
second-language acquisition and related areas.
Schema Therapy in Practice presents a comprehensive introduction to
schema therapy for non-specialist practitioners wishing to
incorporate it into their clinical practice. * Focuses on the
current schema mode model, within which cases can be more easily
conceptualized and emotional interventions more smoothly introduced
* Extends the practice of schema therapy beyond borderline
personality disorder to other personality disorders and Axis I
disorders such as anxiety, depression and OCD * Presented by
authors who are world-respected as leaders in the schema therapy
field, and have pioneered the development of the schema mode
approach
The (not so) Little Book of Surprises is a verbal and graphic trip
to the unexpected, whimsical, and wise worlds of writer and poet
Deirdre Hade and her husband and graphic visionary Will Arntz. With
images provided by award winning photographer Endre Balogh. These
images will inspire you, make you laugh and make you think. The
prose and poetry will raise your awareness to the level that great
art does when truly enjoyed. You will constantly be surprised and
perhaps conclude that this is not such a little book after all. An
ideal gift for those on your list who have everything or nothing at
all.

In 1956, TIME magazine called him one of the defining "form-givers
of the 20th century." Today, Marcel Breuer (1902-1981) remains a
locus classicus of modernism for architects and designers alike. As
a Bauhaus pioneer, even his earliest work was marked by a material
restraint; the balance of texture, color, and shape; and a
symbiosis of local and global, big and small, rough and smooth. In
this essential introductory monograph, we survey Breuer's complete
career through some of his most influential projects and ideas,
from his landmark tubular furniture to the MoMA Research House to
his innovation of "binuclear" housing, splitting living and
sleeping areas into separate wings. Along the way, we follow
Hungarian-born Breuer's journey to international acclaim, with
featured projects from Germany, France, England, Switzerland, and
across the United States contributing to his global status as a
modernist maestro. About the series Born back in 1985, the Basic
Art Series has evolved into the best-selling art book collection
ever published. Each book in TASCHEN's Basic Architecture series
features: an introduction to the life and work of the architect the
major works in chronological order information about the clients,
architectural preconditions as well as construction problems and
resolutions a list of all the selected works and a map indicating
the locations of the best and most famous buildings approximately
120 illustrations (photographs, sketches, drafts, and plans)
This volume is the result of the Cambridge Annual Student
Archaeology Conference (CASA), held at the McDonald Institute for
Archaeological Research from September 13–15, 2019. CASA
developed out of the Annual Student Archaeology Conference, first
held in 2013, which was formed by students at Cambridge, Oxford,
Durham and York. In 2017, Cambridge became the home of the
conference and the name was changed accordingly. The conference was
developed to give students (from undergraduate to PhD candidates)
in archaeology and related fields the chance to present their
research to a broad audience. The theme for the 2019 conference was
New Frontiers in Archaeology and this volume presents papers from a
wide range of topics such as new geographical areas of research,
using museum collections and legacy data, new ways to teach
archaeology and new scientific or theoretic paradigms. From hunting
and gathering in the Neolithic to the return of artefacts to
Turkey, the papers contained within show a great variety in both
geography and chronology. Discussions revolve around access to
data, the role of excavation in today’s archaeology, the role of
local communities in archaeological interpretation and how we can
ask new questions of old data. This volume presents 18 papers
arranged in the six sessions with the two posters in their thematic
sessions.
Ten years ago Polar Biology published the book, Weddell Sea
Ecology, containing the European "Polarstern" study EPOS in the
Weddell Sea and Peninsula waters 1988/89. In certain respects, the
present collection of papers, first published in Polar Biology in
2001, is a follow-up as it combines papers partly based on three
"Polarstern" expeditions to the same region. Further articles
relate to both land-based and shipborne studies, again primarily in
the Atlantic sector and around the Antarctic Peninsula. The SCAR
programme, "Ecology of the Antarctic Sea Ice Zone" (EASIZ), served
as an umbrella for a truly international cooperation. Although
funding came exclusively from national sources, 40% of the
scientists on board "Polarstern" were foreigners. Out of the 35
papers of the present volume not less than 14 papers have
multinational authorship. The scope of EASIZ is wider ilian the
Southern Ocean Studies in JGOFS and GLOBEC. The Contents reflect
emphasis on the study of benthos, which hitherto had not received
the necessary attention in the attempt to understand key questions
of evolution and zoogeography of fauna from the Southern
Hemisphere. The information collected under EASIZ enhanced greatly
our recognition of the rather high biodiversity of ilie Antarctic
shelf benthos. In order to extend these studies to ilie deeper
continental slopes and the deep sea, "Polarstern" is presently on
her way for ilie first international survey of deep-sea benthos in
the Atlantic sector of ilie Southern Ocean.
This volume contains the papers presented at the Scandinavian
Conference on Image Analysis, SCIA 2009, which was held at the
Radisson SAS Scandinavian Hotel, Oslo, Norway, June 15-18. SCIA
2009 was the 16th in the biennial series of conferences, which has
been organized in turn by the Scandinavian countries Sweden,
Finland, D- mark and Norway since 1980. The event itself has always
attracted participants and author contributions from outside the
Scandinavian countries, making it an international conference.
Theconferenceincludedafulldayoftutorialsand?vekeynotetalksprovided
by world-renowned experts. The program covered high-quality
scienti?c cont- butions within image analysis, human and action
analysis, pattern and object recognition, colorimagingandquality,
medicalandbiomedicalapplications, face andheadanalysis, computer
vision, andmultispectralcoloranalysis. The papers werecarefully
selected based on at least two reviews. Among 154 submissions 79
wereaccepted, leadingtoanacceptancerateof51%.
SinceSCIAwasarrangedas a single-track event, 30 papers were
presented in the oral sessions and 49 papers were presented in the
poster sessions. A separate session on multispectral color science
was organized in cooperation with the 11th Symposium of
Multispectral Color Science (MCS 2009). Since 2009 was proclaimed
the "International Year of Astronomy" by the United Nations General
Assembly, the conference also contained a session on the topic
"Imageand PatternAnalysis in Astronomyand Astrophysics. " SCIA has
a reputation of having a friendly environment, in addition to hi-
quality scienti?c contributions. We focused on maintaining this
reputation, by designing a technical and social program that we
hope the participants found interesting and inspiring for new
research ideas and network extensions. We thank the authors for
submitting their valuable work to SCIA.
